From House to Home: Unpacking Begins

From House to Home: Unpacking Begins

This post marks my blogging for 1 month and last weekend was the big move from the apartment to the house. Thus I have lots of unpacking to do, but hey I typically enjoy the reorganizing part.

I have heard and agree with the generalization that most people gravitate and gather in the kitchen of a home. With this in mind and the already accumulated clutter in the kitchen, I decided to start there with my unpacking endeavor.

I started my process by opening up all the cabinets, so I can easily look up and see what space I have left to work with as I unpack. Reality is that I don’t put things in a place until I fully unpack, so my counter tops quickly became overcrowded, but I personally like to revisit all the items I have before selecting the best new home.

From House to Home: Mailboxes

From House to Home - Mailbox

It’s small in comparison to the whole house, but a mailbox is a nice feature to owning a home. In all my past apartments I have always had to go to a central location and have my mail key on hand in order to pick up my mail. Now I just put my car in park on my way up the drive from work, hop out, grab the mail out of the box (no key required) and continue on my way into the house. It’s a great perk!

Also for those that send me snail mail, their notes get to me faster because it’s easy and on my way, so I get my mail every day, opposed to every 4-5 days…. čÖé

Sweetly,

Gwenlynn

Many people have new year’s resolutions, you know to start the year off on a good foot or with the right intentions. Well, I sort of didn’t come to my resolution to become healthier until November of 2016. I cannot recall what was the final push but things just lined up, a gym 6 mins away, a desire to be stronger, etc…

Ben (husband) and I joined the near by gym and within a week I had signed up for twice a week personal training because I frankly needed help. I did not know how to properly use equipment, correct form, and wasn’t sure how to create a plan for my body and one that would work. Read more

Inspiration - French Macarons

I first enjoyed a French Macaron┬áat a little sweet shop that opened up in the town I was living in. They have a few flavors and I simply fell in love with how dainty and delicious they were. I was so excited about this sweet shop and these macarons that I took it as a challenge to learn to make them for myself. I learned pretty quickly that they are bit trickier than they seem to get those desired ‘feet’ on the cookie. To sum up my experiences thus far I am still learning and will be sure to give them a try again and post an update on my progress.

Now with all that said let’s give props to these two bakers who make french macarons look amazing and customizable.

In The Kitchen - Two Peas In a Pod

I am very blessed to have married into a wonderful family and that family just welcomed two more! I now have two beautiful nieces.

A few months back we got together for the gender reveal. Another friend had wrapped up the appropriate clothing in a box, that would reveal the gender, and I had the honor of making a cake for the celebration. Read more

In The Kitchen - Beer Bread & Fire

Let’s start off with no baked goods were harmed in the making of this post. Along with no humans or animals or property. Okay, good, let’s move on to the story.

This took place about 2 years ago. We (boyfriend and I) had decided to try and make a beer bread recipe. I recall that it included a lot of butter so that when placed in the oven liquid was just sitting on top of the dough. Everything was going just fine. We were excited to try a new type of bread. We set the oven, waited, and out came beer bread.
