Spring Gardening & Baking

Last weekend was quite productive. We went to an auction and got a great deal on some tools for Ben to start off our Saturday. Followed by some progress in our landscaping endeavor.

Since we have weathered a winter in our home and done some interior projects we are beginning to make further changes outside. Such as fewer dark walnut trees. We have way too many walnut trees. One, in particular, will need a professional to remove as it too close to the house. I will be happy to see that one gone, as it was the main producer of walnuts and half of them landed on the roof above our bedroom!

I know some of you may be taken aback by our removal of trees, but I promise you we plan to plant some replacement trees, ones that don’t drop pods and stuff. I’m leaning towards at least one flowering tree and a selection of beautiful trees that change color in the fall. We already planted a maple tree last fall, for a start.

Beyond the trees, I have a Saturday already planned to go plant shopping with my Mom. I am so excited to add some more color to the flower beds! Another project on mine is a herb and produce garden. The weather was nice over the weekend so we were able to move some river rock and break ground on where I’ll plant this spring and summer.

It’ll be so nice to have some of our favorites ready just outside our door. I am looking forward to the delicious meals and loaves of bread I will make. One of my favorites is a herb batter bread with parsley, rosemary, and thyme. Every morning before work we typically have a piece of toast or a muffin. With that in mind, I thought it’d be nice to have reusable muffin cups. These colorful silicone ones just arrived in the mail today.
