I love the traditional Lutheran service in part because of the hymns. They are familiar to me and thus beloved. The collective voice of a congregation brought together is full of passion, emotion, and community.
When communion is short I find myself yearning for the remaining songs and end up taking a photo of the hymnal like above and finding the music online so I can still sing it on the ride home. Sometimes the background music isn’t needed because I know the notes so well.
Do you enjoy traditional services and the hymns or do you prefer the contemporary style of service?
Sweetly,
Gwenlynn
Did you pick to take a picture of this hymn because you knew it was one of my favorites?

I took the photo because communion was short and I really wanted to sing this one. So I snapped a pic of the whole song and sang it in the car. I didn’t realize it was one of your favorites.

I love traditional hymns, as well.

Hi Gwen,
I’m behind in my e-mails!
I like both traditional hymns (if played not too slowly) and the newer music. Phil and I attended a music festival in Minnesota about 12-13 years ago – we still lived in Florida at the time. Our Pastor was also there. We picked out some choir music when we were there, and the music was very well received back home. Variety is good.
Love, Fern

I agreed traditional hymns are best when not played too slow. Our church is a mix depending on service
